Why Can't We Love?

They make it sound so easy. . Love - it's what makes the world go round. We all know the songs. It's really very simple. Just love. That's all there is to it.

Then why is there so little of it these days?

There are murders, shootings, killings, gross ways in which humans kill each other and families abuse and torture their own kids and even kill their own children; there are kids killing kids. Kids killing parents and grandparents. And on and on it goes.

But not much love.

Sad. But true.

Well, I watched a video a friend sent to me the other evening. And it was truly something out of the ordinary. Something to stimulate the mind and excite the spirit against the daily run of the mill news of violence and hate and bloodshed and deceit and lies and fighting and wars and animosity between nations and races and families.

Something that made me think there might still be hope left in this world. That the chance of love still exists! (so I share it below) Not everyone is bad. There are many good people left in the world. Thank God for that!

My hope lies in the pages of the Bible and the words of our Savior and our Father - and their plans, hopes and dreams. That world is bright and real and it's coming in the near future. But what about the here and now? How about everything our once innocent eyes have seen and all our once innocent ears have heard - unacceptable deeds and acts that before used to make us cringe and cry and want to puke the first time we heard of such evil acts humans commit against humans, made in the very image of God Himself. It's really very horrible if you stop and think about it even just one little minute.

But now it is everywhere and so frequent it has become the norm and we've gotten a bit used to hearing it as it drifts into our minds daily like dirty smoke and smog and filth as we watch TV or read the news and gets lodged somewhere in our unwilling minds. We've managed to get past our first gut reactions and our minds have grown accustomed and have gradually opened wider to the fact that it's out there, it's real, it's ugly...but it's still not accepted.

People. What are we? Just people. Or is there really something special about us? Why do we know what we know? Or enjoy what we enjoy in life that is truly good...fine arts, clothing, music, culture, friends and family. Cute cuddly little animal friends. And time together eating, dancing, laughing, playing.

Why DO we kill each other? Or hate each other? Or dislike each other? Why can't we love each other, everyone loving everyone else? Yes, we're all different. And that's part of the answer. But still, we're all the same. Our hearts beat the same rich red blood.

Respect and simplicity, being humble instead of proud. Is it that hard to give a little..just a little would be a nice start. Showing someone else we care instead of worrying about how we look to others. Letting your friend have his way instead of you having yours. It can be done. I'm not saying it's easy, I'm just saying it can be done. But it takes work. And that's also part of the answer. It's easier to not work or try or care or help or smile or give just a little. It may be easier, but it's not better. And easier won't change the world. It takes work. Courage. Kindness. Love. And love ain't easy. True love takes work.

It takes making right choices every day. Good choices you can be happy with and proud of at the end of the day. And at the end of your life.

It can be done. It is worth it. It brings happiness. Friends. Good times. Peace of mind. Accomplishment. Success. Unity. Satisfaction. A reason for living!

And it starts...

...with choices that turn into decisions that turn into kindness that turn into acts of giving that turn into...
