Bless the Beasts and the Children...

Who Needs TV?

Sit and watch...

watch and sit...

morning and evening...

we pay...

pay attention...

not to those who matter...

but the inanimate object...

that's far from inanimate...

call it the boob tube...

or the idiot box...

or daily programming...

we give it our attention...

as to a newborn babe...

we cater to every channel...

attracted as flies to filth...

we allow strangers

in our living room...

doing as they please...

they kill...and we watch...

they cuss...and we listen...

we laugh at twisted jokes...

we hear vulgar language...

we see violence and sex...

evil attitudes permeate...

and subjugate our minds...

Daily programming it is...

...of our evil enemy

feeding us trash...

reprogramming our minds...

to think like him...

farther and farther...

away from our Father...

His children...trapped

captive...

the chain tightens...

as day by day...

year by year...

they grow blind...

vision is blurred...

reality is gone...

Toads on the stove...

resting in warm water...

gradually warmer...

then hotter...

burning hot...yet...

we don't jump out...

we've grown comfortable...

accustomed - programmed...

so we stew in hot pots...

as the evil box delivers...

vibes and attitudes...

that should be trashed...

rotting couch potatoes...

wholeheartedly...

relinquishing our minds...

to the enemy...

even silly monkeys...

see no evil...

hear no evil...

speak no evil...

But...

poor starving children...

sifting through trash...

for any sign of scraps...

to put in their mouth...

fill empty stomachs...

empty minds...

devoid of nutrition...

the sustenance of life...

JUST...

SOME...

FOOD...

FOR ...

...THOUGHT

The Beasts and the Children

Bless the beasts

and the children

for in this world

they have no voice

they have no choice...???

I love this poem so much. I totally agree with you. We are like toads. I like the way how you said - we let strangers into our living room. I dont watch TV. I only tend to watch the discovery channel. Very nice hub for the new year. voted up and interesting.

Thank you tarajeyaram for your kind comment. Our family "threw away the TV" a year ago and haven't missed or regretted it once! Thanks for reading...The Discovery Channel is an exception, a very worthy channel to watch and discover...good for the mind!

Wow, Bluebird. Every word is true.

Many of us, including myself, call ourselves Christian, children of God and we don't turn off the unholy music or turn of the box from the evil programs. We watch the movies that bleep the cussing but we know it's there.

We train our children to watch programs that proport to be PG 13 but really are for adult eyes only. Even some commercials selling sex needs to be banned.

I too have been guilty of this and I too have found myself watching less and less as I pray for guidance more and more.

Thanks you for reminding us who we are and who we are supposed to be.

Wow is right!

This one will punch you right in the nose!

and as well it should!

Excellent poem, packed with truth!

Do not be surprised if many do not respond to this one...it hits where it hurts.

Again, I applaud you,

Chris

Dear Cardisa,

I appreciate your comment and glad there are some who, like you, are working on it. It is easy to get caught up in it all and so hard to go against the grain, the ONLY way my husband and I found that really worked for us was to "blow up the TV" so to speak, I remember well the words of the song John Denver wrote about that very thing. It hit home here. Now we have peace and it is beautiful and well worth the effort.

Thanks for dropping by friend. And the best to you this year.

CMerritt,

Thank you, if there is any truth or inspiration in it, I can only give credit to the source of my inspiration, my loving Father...I was moved and inspired when I wrote this as I compared my life back then with the TV on and a year later...my life completely without it. What a big difference, a positive difference it has made for myself, my husband and our family. It can be done.

Thanks for your comment and standing up to truth! You are a wise soul and I wish you only well friend.

Loved the idea behind your poem. Television has really become a nuisance to emotional growth and awareness.

Oh yes indeed another gem from you; there are going to be many up up and aways for you.

You are such a natural writer and as I have always felt so at one with the countryside your hubs are one big treat.

Take care and enjoy your day.

Wonderful hub. It is a shame that television can be so boring sometimes. I often flip channels in search for a good movie that will be like a work of art. Once in a while a good movie will come along like a gold nugget, and if I am lucky enough not to have to hold down the washing machine I just might get to watch and entire film, if it is worth watching. I know what you mean. Womderful poem. God Bless you precious heart.

Dear justmesuzanne,

Thanks for your kind comment and spending some time with me here on hubpages! A great place to hang out, share and make new friends!

Have a blessed day!

Dear stars439,

I appreciate your presence on hubpages very much, you are a wonderful writer and friend. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. I liked how you described a good movie like a gold nugget, isn't that the truth!? They are so far and few between nowadays, you can't find any G-rated ones much anymore. We have no TV service, but we do have a CD and DVD collection of our favorite movies. Even then, there just isn't enough time in the day anymore, time slips by so fast, don't want to waste it!

May you enjoy a blessed day with plenty of sunshine and hugs!!!
